FED keeps rates unchanged but 25bp expected in December.
Microsoft beats and Google disappoints.
1. Microsoftâs AI efficiency push.
Microsoft will reportedly offer voluntary buyouts to around 60,000 employees, according to Bloomberg, as it cuts costs and reorganises around AI. That is the number eligibleânot the number expected to leave. Meanwhile, headcount stands at roughly 223,000, largely unchanged since 2022. Revenue has risen more than 500% since 2007.
The earnings report showed Microsoft can keep feeding AI demand without letting spending outrun the story. Free cash flow was $18.6 billion, while Azure alone generated $33.17 billion in revenue. The next test is whether that infrastructure converts into durable margin expansion as the company scales Copilot and its OpenAI partnership.

2. FED keeps rates on hold but 25bp expected in December.
The Federal Reserve held its target range steady at 3.75% to 4.00% Wednesday, but the market immediately moved on to December. Futures and prediction markets say the October hold was the setup, not the story, with another quarter-point hike favored for the yearâs final meeting.

3. âStick with value and qualityâ, says JPMorgan quant.
âWe remain overweight Value paired with Quality, and prefer Value vs. Growth. At this juncture, our analysis suggests bond yields are a lead signal: changes in Euro yields have historically led Value vs. Momentum and Value vs. Growth.
With the cost of capital still high, the market should continue to reward nearer-term cash flows over long-duration growth expectations.â
Below: European QMI (Quant Macro Index) remains in a âContractionâ phase of the cycle.

4. History suggests the window for a year-end rally is opening right now.
According to Deutsche Bank, October 27 has historically marked the final seasonal low for the S&P 500, with equities typically rallying into year-end. The setup is particularly interesting in midterm years, with the S&P 500 rising over the three months following early October in 21 of the past 23 midterm years.

5. Anthropic token consumption.
